Music just comes at you from every corner in the city. This is probably one of my favorite things about living in New York; the innumerable options for gigs and concerts and awesome hangouts with daily live music, but also - music greeting you unexpectedly at a park, street corner, or in the subway.
Check out this brilliant article in the Washington Post, about an experiment where they got a world-renowned violinist - Joshua Bell, to perform incognito at a DC metro station during morning rush hour. It's very long but highly recommendable article, and it won the Pulitzer Prize for best feature writing this year.
