It was Thursday afternoon, at around 4:30 PM... my friends and I had finished our labs and were chatting before going our separate ways to head home! For some reason I was feeling full of energy and suddenly announced that I want to walk all the way home (in Rabieh)... No one agreed to come with me (surprise surprise!!) but I would not let that discourage me, so off I went... with a heavy back-pack on my shoulders and a huge folder in one hand!!
Ok... no interesting pictures this time, but I enjoyed that walk tremendously... it took about 1 hr 15 minutes, and just think what an excellent way to spend your time:
1. terrific workout
2. a chance to arrange your thoughts and take a step back from all the clutter of the day
3. you get to notice interesting little details along the road you take everyday which you would never notice while driving or from a car window.
4. you get to enjoy the outdoors and the spring weather (to balance all the time I spend in front of the PC!!!)
But of course that walk wouldn't have been complete without distinct Ammani elements ;) first of all, for the entire 75 minutes I was accompanied by the musical car beeps... taxis just have to indulge all your senses, like the constant flow of yellow in every possible street corner isn't enough to draw your attention!!
And I have to say something about the pavements (or rather lack of pavements)!! It's not a new discovery that our streets are so not pedestrian-friendly... it's like a decent wide-enough pavement is a commodity one can only visualize and dream of while stumbling and trying to take the right steps in the midst of car threats!! And when you do happen to find this spacious sidewalk it would be crowded with trees that keep you bending and twisting and turning... Everyone loves greenery and we'd like to see Amman full of nice trees... but not when they come at the expense of pedestrians!!!
But hey... I arrived home safe and well (with red cheeks), and it was a great feeling to put down my back-pack, embrace cold water, stretch... and just feel so good about myself ;p
Hehe, great post Lina. I'm still not sure if I'd ever have the energy or the muscles to walk all the way to Rabyeh from Jam3a!
ReplyDeleteYalla, as long as you enjoyed it ya nasheeta inti!
Happy Easter Lina :)
